Chemical Matching Criteria

Note: This feature requires the Chemical Inventory module licensed at your site.

When a product ingredient matches a chemical exactly in name or CAS number (as defined on the chemical's Details page), that ingredient is identified as a match to the chemical. However, a single chemical may have multiple names and/or CAS numbers, or may represent a group or category of chemicals; these cases require multiple chemical names and/or multiple CAS numbers to be identified as matches for the chemical.

A chemical's matching criteria are the additional chemical names and CAS numbers that match product ingredients to the chemical. These are divided into two types:

Each chemical name criterion identifies an ingredient-to-chemical match when an ingredient name contains, begins with, ends with, or exactly matches a specific word or phrase. (See procedure below for examples.)

Each CAS number criterion identifies an ingredient-to-chemical match when an ingredient has a specific CAS number.

A matching criterion of either type can also have a contribution restriction. When a contribution restriction is present, an ingredient is considered a true match to the chemical only if it obeys the criterion and has a product contribution amount that overlaps with the contribution restriction.

Each matching criterion has the following effects:

The chemical's Related Products page shows all products (SDSs, parts, and lots) containing ingredients that obey the criterion, regardless of their contribution amounts. The purpose of this page is to show each related product, even if its matching ingredient is not considered a true match to the chemical.

The chemical's Inventory Levels page shows transactions involving product ingredients that both obey the criterion and have a product contribution overlapping with the criterion's contribution restriction.

Any CAS/Chemical threshold list item obeying the criterion and its contribution restriction may apply its thresholds to the chemical's activities and quantities in your inventory. (See Chemical Inventory Limits for details.)

Every chemical matching criterion is global and takes effect at every site where the Chemical Inventory module is licensed.

To view a chemical's matching criteria:

Starting at the Chemical Home page (How do I get there?), do the following:

1.      Under Additional Details, click Matching Criteria.

The Chemical Matching Criteria or CAS Matching Criteria page opens, depending on which was viewed last.

2.      In the upper right, click Chemical or CAS, depending on which page you want to view:

Chemical Matching Criteria: Shows the chemical name criteria that match this chemical to product ingredients. The placement or absence of percent signs (%) indicate how each criterion matches product ingredients with this chemical. Examples, using the criterion "methyl":

methyl — Product ingredients with the exact name "methyl" are matched to the chemical.

%methyl% — Product ingredients whose names contain "methyl" are matched to the chemical.

methyl% — Product ingredients whose names begin with "methyl" are matched to the chemical.

%methyl — Product ingredients whose names end with "methyl" are matched to the chemical.

Note: These matches are not case-sensitive.

CAS Matching Criteria: Shows the CAS number criteria that match this chemical to product ingredients. Product ingredients with the listed CAS numbers are matched to the chemical.

Both pages also show the following data for each criterion (both chemical names and CAS numbers):

Other Conditions: Any additional conditions determining whether an ingredient matching the criterion is a true match to this chemical.

Contribution: The percentage contribution that must be matched or overlapped by an ingredient matching the criterion to be considered a true match to this chemical.
