Note: This feature requires the Chemical Inventory module licensed at your site.
Create a new chemical when you need to add a specific substance—or a specific concentration of a specific substance—that is currently unrepresented in your chemical database. Creating a new chemical requires only a name or a CAS number to identify the substance. Other details—such as the chemical's formula, EC number, UN number, and so on—can be entered during the creation, or later as they become available (using the Chemical Details page).
Before you create a new chemical, remember the following:
● All chemicals are global. When you create a new chemical, it immediately becomes visible at all sites where the Chemical Inventory module is licensed.
● If any site has both the Chemical Inventory and Tier II Regulatory Reporting modules licensed, this site automatically creates many of the chemicals commonly referenced in Tier II reporting. Before you create a new chemical, search your database for it (see Searching for Chemicals) to ensure it hasn't already been created automatically.
To create a new chemical:
Starting at the Chemical Search Center page (How do I get there?), do the following:
1. Click the New Chemical link on the right side of the page. A set of fields will appear.
2. Enter the new chemical’s CAS number and/or Chemical Name.
3. Enter any other available details about the new chemical: its Formula, Formulation, EC Number, RTECS Number, UN Number, and Molecular Weight.
4. If this chemical record will apply to the chemical only in a certain amount within a product (since different concentrations may have different physical/hazard data), enter this amount in the Contribution Restriction area. Choose an Operator to describe the amount and enter the amount in the High field (or, if the selected operator is “Range,” enter the range’s high value in the High field and its low value in the Low field). Choose a Unit Of Measure for the amount.
5. In the Other Conditions field, enter any other conditions not covered by the standard fields.
6. If the chemical is primarily measured in a certain unit, choose that unit in the Primary UOM pick list.
7. Click the Save button to create the new chemical. You will be taken to its Home page.
