● Chemical Inventory
● Form R Regulatory Reporting
● Tier II Regulatory Reporting
Create a universal conversion factor when current universal conversion factors do not include all unit conversions required by your products' transactions. If you create a universal conversion factor at Corporate, it takes effect at all local sites with at least one of the modules listed above. If you create a universal conversion factor at a local site, it takes effect at that site only.
Each unit of measure has a "base/scientific type" that defines what property the unit measures: Mass, Pressure, Volume, and so on. Conversion factors cannot convert between units with incompatible base/scientific types. When creating a universal conversion factor, bear in mind that it can only convert between:
● Two units of the same base/scientific type;
● An Ambiguous unit and a unit of any other base/scientific type;
● A Pressure unit and a Mass unit;
● A Pressure unit and a Volume unit.
Note: When a conversion factor applies to a specific product only, consider creating it as a product-specific conversion factor, not a universal conversion factor. For details on product-specific conversion factors, see SDS Conversion Factors and Part Conversion Factors.
To create a universal conversion
factor:
Starting at the administrative Universal Conversion Factors page (How do I get there?), do the following:
1. In the menu on the left, under INVENTORY > Conversion Factors, click New Factor.
Fields appear for defining the new conversion factor.
2. In the Converting From and Converting To menus, select the units the new conversion factor will convert between. (See above for details on which types of units are compatible.)
3. In the Factor field, enter the factor by which you multiply the Converting From unit to get the correct number of Converting To units. (Example: In a conversion factor converting from pounds to ounces, the factor would be 16.)
4. Click Add.
The new universal conversion factor is saved. You are returned to the Universal Conversion Factors page, which now shows the new conversion factor. The new conversion factor automatically takes effect in all appropriate unit-conversion calculations.
