With sufficient permissions, you can edit any data in an SDS's primary information except for its file name. (For details on each item of data, see SDS Primary Information.) While much of an SDS's primary information may be recorded in its text, editing its primary information has no effect on the content of its text/image files (and vice versa).
Note: Using the procedure below, you can change the language, SDS format, and product category assignments/exclusions of a single SDS. To change the language, SDS format, and product category assignments/exclusions of multiple SDSs simultaneously, see the following topics:
● Selecting a Language for SDSs in a Collection
● Selecting an SDS Format for SDSs in a Collection
● Adding Product Category Assignments/Exclusions to SDSs in a Collection
To edit an SDS's primary information:
Starting at the SDS Home page (How do I get there?), do the following:
1. Under Additional Details, click Primary Information.
The Primary Information page opens, showing the SDS's current primary information for your site.
2. Edit the various information items as desired using the fields, menus, and check boxes provided. Items with special circumstances include:
● File Name: Each SDS's file name is permanent and cannot be changed.
● Document ID: Each SDS's document ID is permanent and cannot be changed.
● Manufacturer: Click this edit (
) icon to select the product's manufacturer from your system's list of manufacturers. (For details on this list, see Administration: Manufacturers.)
● Manufacturer/Supplier Contact: Click this edit (
) icon to select the desired contact from your system's list of Manufacturer/Supplier-type contacts defined for the manufacturer selected above. (For details on this list, see Administration: Contacts.)
● Product Categories:
● To add the SDS to a product category: Click Product Categories to open the list of available product categories. Select the desired categories and click Done.
● To exclude the SDS from a product category: If the desired category isn't already assigned, click Product Categories to select the desired category. When the category appears in the Product Categories list, select its Excluded check box.
● To remove a product category assignment: Select the assignment's Delete check box.
Note: If you see any blue (Corporate) product category assignments you cannot edit or remove, these were assigned by a Corporate user and can be edited/removed by a Corporate user only.
● Physical Data: Be sure to select the desired Operator for each applicable property and enter the property value accordingly:
● Operator is Range: Enter the range's high and low values in the High and Low fields, respectively.
● Any operator other than Range: Enter the property's single value in the High field.
Note: If the Chemical Inventory module is licensed at your site, use caution when editing an SDS’s Specific Gravity or Density. If the SDS has undergone any transactions (either directly or indirectly as another product’s component), changing either of these properties can invalidate the quantities of those transactions. See SDS Transactions for details.
3. Click Save in the lower left.
Your changes to the SDS's primary information are saved.
