Manufacturers are the companies that manufacture the products in Comply Plus. For convenience, accuracy, and consistency, when a user records the manufacturer of a product in Comply Plus, that user does not have to enter the manufacturer name manually; this user can browse your system's list of manufacturer names and select the correct name. Administrators can view and manage the names in your system's manufacturer list. Unlike many other types of administrative data in Comply Plus, manufacturer names are never confined to specific local sites; when a manufacturer name is recorded in your system's manufacturer list, it becomes available to users selecting manufacturers for products at all sites.
Manufacturers can also have alternate names, or aliases. Suppose a manufacturer changes its name, due to rebranding, getting merged with or acquired by another manufacturer, or some other reason. This manufacturer's two names—the old and the new, defined in Comply Plus as two separate manufacturer names—can be placed in an "alias group," which means the names become synonyms for each other. Then, when a user searches for products from either the new or the old manufacturer name, products from both manufacturer names appear in the search results. All products' recorded manufacturers should be kept as current as possible, but manufacturer aliases allow older manufacturer names to remain valid criteria for your users. Each alias group can contain two or more manufacturer names; each name in the group is an alias for every other name in the group.
To view your system's manufacturers:
Starting at the Application Administration page (How do I get there?), do the following:
1. In the menu on the left, under DATA, click Manufacturers.
The administrative Manufacturers page opens, showing all the manufacturers defined in your system whose names begin with A.
2. Do any of the following:
● To view manufacturer names beginning with other letters: Click the desired letter in the alphabet bar above the manufacturer list. To view manufacturer names beginning with other characters, click Other.
● To view only manufacturers of products at your site (available to local site users only): Select the Show only Manufacturers from SDSs at this Site check box in the lower right. This causes the display to show only the manufacturers of SDSs that are assigned to your site. (For details on selecting an SDS's manufacturer, see SDS Primary Information.) To see all manufacturer names again, clear the check box.
