A chemical list is a list of specific chemical substances and/or groups of chemicals ("mercury compounds," for example) whose presence in a product is a cause for concern and/or action. Each chemical list is compiled for a specific purpose, such as citing substances that are:
● Banned or restricted by a regulatory authority or agency;
● Expressly permitted or authorized by a regulatory authority or agency;
● Identified by a research organization as posing a specific hazard to human health and/or the environment;
● Targets for reduction or replacement by safer alternatives, due to being overly hazardous or otherwise costly for your company to store and handle.
When a product ingredient or a chemical is matched to an item in a chemical list, this list matching data is shown on the following displays:
● SDS Ingredients: Shows all chemical list citations for each ingredient recorded for an SDS.
● Part Home Page: Shows all chemical list citations for each ingredient in a part. If your site has the REACH module licensed, this page also shows a separate section for the part's ingredient matches to REACH-related chemical lists.
● Lot Home Page: Shows all chemical list citations for each ingredient in a lot.
● Chemical Home Page: Shows all chemical list citations for a specific chemical.
● List Matching Reports: Various reports show a variety of list matching data for multiple products and/or multiple chemical lists.
An ingredient or chemical is matched to a chemical list item by its name or its CAS number. Each list item has a primary CAS number and/or primary chemical name, but can also include any number of additional CAS numbers and chemical names to account for synonyms and other variations; this ensures all appropriate substances are matched to the list item. Examples:
● A list item representing a category of chemicals (not just a single chemical substance) would have multiple CAS numbers—one to match each chemical falling into that category.
● A list item representing formaldehyde would include a number of additional chemical names to ensure any substances using an alternate name for formaldehyde (Methyl aldehyde, Methylene glycol, Methylene oxide, and so on) are matched to this list item.
● A list item representing a broad category of chemicals (for example, all acids) could include the chemical name "acid" with the Contains option selected; thus any ingredient or chemical containing the word "acid" would be matched to this list item.
Note: Each additional CAS number and chemical name can have the setting of "Absolute/True," which designates any ingredient or chemical obeying this criterion as a certain match to the list item. Without this setting, any ingredient or chemical obeying the criterion is considered only a possible match.
In Comply Plus, chemical lists fall into two types:
● Standard Lists: Official chemical lists—typically published by a government or other regulatory authority—that are automatically provided and regularly updated in your Comply Plus system.
● Custom Lists: Chemical lists created by users in your corporation. A custom list can be an official regulatory list not included in the standard lists or a list tailored specifically for practices at your corporation or facility. Each item in a custom list includes not only CAS numbers and chemical names, but also up to three fields for entering extra data for each item. A custom list created at Corporate is available at all local sites; a custom list created at a local site is available at that site only.
Note: If the Tier II Regulatory Reporting module is licensed at your site, any custom list at your site can be designated a "Tier II Exemption List." All product ingredients cited by a Tier II exemption list are automatically exempted from Tier II reporting. For details on Tier II reporting, see Tier II Regulatory Reporting.
For lists of either type, you can define use restrictions, which are notes or instructions related to a chemical list, such as how to treat products containing ingredients cited by the list. If the Material Request & Approval module is licensed at your site, use restrictions appear in MRAP tasks of the Use Restrictions types when the requested product contains cited ingredients. For details, see the following:

To view your site's chemical lists:
Starting at the Application Administration page (How do I get there?), do the following:
1. In the menu on the left, under DATA, click List Matching.
The administrative List Matching page opens, showing all chemical lists available at your site, divided into Custom Lists (if your site has access to any custom lists) and Standard Lists. Each standard list shows dates in the following columns:
● Reg. Date: The date when the list was originally published by its regulatory agency.
● Last Modified: The date when the list was most recently updated by Sphera.
2. Optional: To view a list's items, click the list name.
The list's items are shown in the following columns:
● CAS: The item's primary CAS number. Click this number (or the item's chemical name; see next) to view the item's additional CAS number and chemical name matches.
● Chemical: The item's primary chemical name. Click this name (or the item's CAS number; see previous) to view the item's additional CAS number and chemical name matches.
● Additional columns: Any list can have up to three additional columns showing list-specific data for each item. (Example: A list of carcinogens might have a "Carcinogenicity" column showing the carcinogenicity rating of each item in the list.)
Use the pagination tools at the bottom of the display to browse the pages of list items.
If you have permission to manage custom chemical lists, see the following topics for details:
● Creating a Custom Chemical List: Create a new custom list for use at your local site (if you are a local site user) or at all sites (if you are a Corporate user).
● Editing a Custom Chemical List's Properties: Modify a custom list's name, user-defined data labels (additional fields/columns for item-specific data), footer, and/or "Tier II Exemption List" status.
● Editing a Custom Chemical List's Items: Add, edit, and/or remove items in a custom list.
● Deleting a Custom Chemical List: Permanently remove a custom list from your system.
