Create a unit of measure to enable users to enter values in a new unit. The new unit will be available for selection in:
● All value entries covered by the new unit's usage types;
● Conversion factors; for details, see Administration: Universal Conversion Factors.
Note: Corporate units of measure can be selected for value entries at any site. A unit created at a local site, however, can be selected for values at that site only. Example: A local unit can be selected for a transaction quantity of an SDS's product, because transactions exist only at the local sites where they are entered. However, a local unit cannot be selected for an SDS's vapor density, because the SDS's vapor density is global data visible from any site.
To create a unit of measure:
Starting at the administrative Units of Measure page (How do I get there?), do the following:
1. In the menu on the left, under DATA > Units of Measure, click New Unit of Measure.
Fields appear for entering the new unit's properties.
2. In the Unit of Measure field, enter the new unit's name.
3. In the Base Type menu, select the new unit's base/scientific type. (For details on the available base/scientific types, see Administration: Units of Measure.)
4. In the Usage Types list, select usage types appropriate for the new unit and click Add >>. Repeat until all desired usage types appear in the list on the right. (For details on the available usage types, see Administration: Units of Measure.)
5. Click Save.
The new unit is saved and added to the administrative Units of Measure page. It is now available for selection for its usage types.
