Creating an Add-On Module

Create an add-on module to provide users at your site and/or at other sites with a new add-on module. In addition to defining the new add-on module's name and URL, you also select whether it is basic or parameterized and whether it is local or global. (For details on these properties, see Administration: Add-On Modules.)

After you save the new add-on module, it initially appears on the Add-On Modules page (see Add-On Modules) at your site only. To modify where the new add-on module appears, see Selecting Where an Add-On Module Appears.

To create an add-on module:

Starting at the administrative Add-On Modules page (How do I get there?), do the following:

1.      In the menu on the left, under OTHER > Add-On Modules, click New Add-On.

The New Add-On Module page opens, showing fields and options for defining the new add-on module.

2.      In the fields provided, enter the new add-on module's name and its full URL.

3.      Using the following two check boxes, select the new add-on module's basic/parameterized and local/global statuses:

        Performs a Parameterized Search:

To create a basic add-on module: Leave this check box clear.

To create a parameterized add-on module: Select this check box. In the Parameter Name field that appears, enter the search parameter used by the add-on module's URL.

        Global:

To create a local add-on module: Leave this check box clear.

To create a global add-on module: Select this check box.

4.      Click Save in the lower right.

The new add-on module is saved and automatically licensed at your site, and therefore now appears on your site's Add-On Modules page (see Add-On Modules). You are returned to the administrative Add-On Modules page, which now shows the new add-on module. To change where the new add-on module appears, see Selecting Where an Add-On Module Appears.
