An SDS file is a text or image file of an SDS's textual content. This content is usually published by the product's manufacturer, but Comply Plus allows you to upload additional SDS files in a variety of formats to each SDS in your system. An SDS's files fall into the following types:
● Primary Text File: This is a text (.TXT) file that appears in full on the SDS Home page, below the SDS toolbar. If this file includes section headers, these are listed under SDS Contents and allow you to jump to the desired section of text.
Note: To be formatted as a section header in the primary text file, a section title must be on its own line of text with six dashes before and after the title, as in:
------7. HANDLING AND STORAGE------
● Other SDS Files: These are any SDS files in addition to the primary text file, and may include one file of each format: one .TXT, one .PDF, one .DOCX, and so on. After being uploaded, these files are renamed to match the SDS's numeric file name and made available on the SDS Home page.
Use the following procedure to view an SDS's files. If you have permission to edit an SDS's files, see the links below.
To view an SDS's files:
Starting at the SDS Home page (How do I get there?), do the following:
● Look in the beige section on the left side of the SDS Home page. The sub-sections displayed indicate which kinds of SDS files are available:
● SDS Contents: Indicates the SDS has a primary text file. If this sub-section shows section headers of the SDS text, click one to jump to that section.
● Additional SDS Files: Indicates the SDS has other SDS files in addition to the primary text file. Click a file to open it in a new window.
● SDS Files: Indicates the SDS has no primary text file, but does have other SDS files. Click a file to open it in a new window.
● No SDS File Available: Indicates the SDS has no SDS files. See below for details on creating/uploading SDS files.
If you have permission to modify SDS files, see the following:
● Creating/Editing an SDS's Primary Text File: Create a new primary text file or edit an existing one directly in Comply Plus.
● Uploading SDS Files: Upload SDS files (either a primary text file or other files) from your network/workstation to an SDS in Comply Plus.
● Editing SDS Files: Download SDS files (either primary text files or others), make any necessary changes, and re-upload the new versions.
● Removing SDS Files: Remove SDS files (either primary text files or others) from an SDS.
