A threshold list is a list of items (such as products or chemical substances) with one or more quantity values defined for each item. The purpose of these values is to act as thresholds to keep the item's inventory balances and activities within certain limits. Each threshold is one of the following:

        Minimum Level: A quantity that an essential material's on-hand balance should not fall below.

        Maximum Level: A quantity that a costly or hazardous material's on-hand balance should not exceed.

        Maximum Aggregate/Period: A quantity of total activity during a period of time (example: total quantity of usage during one month) that a material's activity should not exceed. This is typically focused on transactions of one or more specific groups, types, and/or attributes.

Each threshold list applies its thresholds only to a single type of item in your system. The available item types (and their representative icons) are:

         Product: Applies to products in general, whether defined in your system as SDSs, parts, or lots. Each item in a Product threshold list is identified by a product name. The list item applies its threshold(s) to:

        Each SDS with a common name or synonym matching the item's product name;

        Each part with a product name or component name matching the item's product name;

        Each lot with a product name or component name matching the item's product name.

         SDS: Applies to products defined in your system as SDSs, including parts and lots whose components are defined as SDSs. Each item in an SDS threshold list is identified by a product name. The list item applies its threshold(s) to:

        Each SDS with a common name or synonym matching the item's product name;

        Each part with a Single SDS component defined as an SDS that meets the previous criterion;

        Each lot with an SDS or Part component defined as an SDS or part that meets one of the two previous criteria (respectively).

         Part: Applies to products defined in your system as parts, including lots whose components are defined as parts. Each item in a Part threshold list is identified by a product name. The list item applies its threshold(s) to:

        Each part with a product name matching the item's product name;

        Each lot with a Part component defined as a part that meets the previous criterion.

         CAS/Chemical: Applies to specific chemical substances, including individual chemicals as well as SDS ingredients, part ingredients, and lot ingredients. Each item in a CAS/Chemical threshold list is identified by:

        Chemical name (required)

        CAS number (optional)

        Contribution amount (optional)

The list item applies its threshold(s) to:

        Each SDS ingredient, part ingredient, or lot ingredient with both a contribution amount that overlaps with the item's contribution amount (if both contributions are defined) and at least one of the following:

        An ingredient name matching the item's chemical name;

        A CAS number matching the item's CAS number.

        Each chemical with both a contribution restriction that overlaps with the item's contribution amount (if both contributions are defined) and at least one of the following:

        A chemical name matching the item's chemical name;

        A formulation matching the item's chemical name;

        A synonym matching the item's chemical name.

        A primary CAS number matching the item's CAS number.

        Each chemical with a chemical name criterion (entered on the chemical's Matching Criteria page) that has both of the following:

        A name criterion obeyed by the item's chemical name;

        A contribution restriction that overlaps with the item's contribution amount (if both contributions are defined).

        Each chemical with a CAS number criterion (entered on the chemical's Matching Criteria page) that has both of the following:

        A CAS number criterion matching the item's CAS number;

        A contribution restriction that overlaps with the item's contribution amount (if both contributions are defined).

         Hazard Classification: Applies to products and chemicals that fall under certain hazardous classifications. Each item in a Hazard Classification threshold list includes one or more classification items. This list item applies its threshold(s) to each SDS, part, lot, or chemical that has one or more of these same hazard classifications applied.

When a threshold list item meets the necessary criteria listed above and applies to an SDS, part, lot, or chemical, the item appears on that product's or chemical's Inventory Limits page. See the following for details:

        SDS Inventory Limits

        Part Inventory Limits

        Lot Inventory Limits

        Chemical Inventory Limits

Each of these displays shows the threshold list items that apply to the material, but not whether the material's inventory activities or balances have breached these thresholds. To generate reports showing threshold breaches, see Inventory Reports.

While the criteria listed above determine whether a threshold list item applies to a material in general, a threshold list's configuration can enable you to further specify any of its items to apply only to balances and activities of the material that meet additional criteria:

        Physical State: Each of a list item's thresholds can be either a single, general quantity value or up to three values, each applying only to material quantities of a certain physical state: liquid, solid, or gas.

        Location: Each list item can apply its thresholds only to material balances and activities at a specific location.

        Transaction Groups/Types: Each Maximum Aggregate/Period threshold can apply only to transactions of certain groups or types.

        Transaction Attributes: Each Maximum Level or Maximum Aggregate/Period threshold can apply only to transactions (or balances resulting from transactions) with specific transaction attributes.
