Hazard information indicates the various hazards, risks, and safety practices associated with handling a product. In Comply Plus, this information is organized into two main areas:
● Hazard Ratings: A product's ratings as shown in the following pictograms:
● NFPA (US National Fire Protection Association) "fire diamond"
● HMIS (US Hazardous Materials Identification System, before April 2002) "color bar"
● HMIS III (US Hazardous Materials Identification System, after April 2002) "color bar"
Any or all of these pictograms appear on the SDS Home page (depending on administrative settings; see Hiding/Showing Hazard Ratings), showing the ratings entered for the product. Each SDS can have multiple versions of hazard ratings entered:
● Global: The SDS's default hazard ratings available at all sites.
● Local: The SDS's hazard ratings at a specific site, in case site-specific circumstances require different ratings. Any SDS can have a set of local hazard ratings for each site; at the local site level, these local ratings override the SDS's global ratings. When you are viewing an SDS's local hazard ratings on the SDS Home page, a note indicates they are local overrides.
● Hazard Classifications: A product's codes, pictograms, risk and safety phrases, and other hazard indicators, as selected from various regulatory standards and labeling systems. Each classification item assigned to an SDS appears on its SDS Home page, including its pictogram (if available). When a Corporate user assigns hazard classification items to an SDS, those assignments take effect at all sites. When a local site user assigns hazard classification items to an SDS, those assignments take effect at that site only.
Note: Comply Plus includes many standard hazard classifications and items you can assign to your products, but administrators can create new classifications as necessary. For details, see Administration: Hazard Classifications and Ratings.
To view an SDS's hazard ratings/classifications:
Starting at the SDS Home page (How do I get there?), do the following:
1. Under Additional Details, click Hazards.
The Hazard Ratings or Hazard Classifications page opens, depending on which was viewed last.
2. In the upper right, click the type of hazard information you want to view:
● Ratings: Opens the Hazard Ratings page, which shows the product's NFPA, HMIS, and HMIS III hazard ratings. By default, the page shows the product's hazard ratings as seen from your site. If you are a local site user, click the Commit changes to Global Hazard Ratings option to see the SDS's Corporate-level ratings.
● Classifications: Opens the Hazard Classifications page, which shows the SDS's assigned hazard classifications in the Assigned list. Click any classification category's expand () icon to view the individual items in this classification assigned to the SDS. If you are a local site user, classification items assigned at Corporate appear in blue; classifications assigned at your site appear in black.
