Managing DSMs

Note: This feature requires both of the following modules licensed at your site:

        Chemical Inventory

        HandHeld Inventory

A DSM (Data Station Manager) is a set of properties that represents a workstation where handheld bar-code scanner devices are docked. When a workstation has the Sphera Data Station Manager application installed (see Installing/Configuring the DSM Application) and is defined as a DSM in Comply Plus, this enables the workstation to transmit data between Comply Plus and handheld devices during the handheld inventory process.

Each DSM is defined by the following properties:

DSM ID: A unique name or ID code that identifies the workstation.

Notes: Any additional information that helps users understand the nature or location of the DSM.

Assigned Devices: The handheld devices docked at the DSM. A DSM can have any number of assigned devices, but each device can be assigned to only one DSM at a time.

Each DSM appears on the administrative Data Station Manager List page (see procedure below) and on the HandHeld Inventory Site Overview, which shows a tree of your system's DSMs and each DSM's assigned devices; for details, see HandHeld Inventory Site Overview.

To view a site's DSMs:

Starting at the Application Administration page (How do I get there?), do the following:

In the menu on the left, under INVENTORY, click HandHeld Inventory Manager > Manage DSMs.

The administrative Data Station Manager List page opens, showing all DSMs currently defined at your site.

If you have permission to manage DSMs, see the following topics for details:

Creating a DSM: Identify a new workstation serving as a DSM in handheld inventory.

Editing a DSM: Update the ID, notes, and/or assigned devices of an existing DSM.

Deleting a DSM: Delete an obsolete or otherwise unwanted DSM.
