Create a collection when a new grouping of items would be useful for batch data operations, running collection-focused reports, convenient reference, or any other reason.
The procedure below demonstrates how to create an empty collection of any type; you can then add items to the new collection using the procedures from Adding Items to a Collection. Other operations enable you to combine these two steps, selecting a desired set of items and placing them in an automatically-created new collection. For this method, see the procedures below and select the one appropriate to the new collection's type and the source of the items you want to add:
● To start a new collection with selected SDSs:
● Adding SDS Search Results to a Collection: Start a new collection with one or more SDSs in search results (from the SDS Search Center, an SDS search template, or a universal product search).
● To start a new collection with selected parts:
● Adding a Part to a Collection: Start a new part collection with a single part.
● Adding Part Search Results to a Collection: Start a new collection with one or more parts in search results (from the Part Search Center, a part search template, or a universal product search).
● To start a new collection with selected lots:
● Adding a Lot to a Collection: Start a new lot collection with a single lot.
● Adding Lot Search Results to a Collection: Start a new collection with one or more lots in search results (from the Lot Search Center or a universal product search).
● To start a new collection with selected transactions (requires the Chemical Inventory, Form R Regulatory Reporting, or Tier II Regulatory Reporting module):
● Adding a Transaction to a Collection: Start a new transaction collection with a single transaction.
● Adding Transaction Search Results to a Collection: Start a new collection with one or more transactions in search results from the Transaction Search Center.
● Adding Transactions from an SDS Collection to a Transaction Collection: Start a new collection with the transactions recorded for each product in an SDS collection.
● Adding Transactions from a Part Collection to a Transaction Collection: Start a new collection with the transactions recorded for each product in a part collection.
● Adding Transactions from a Lot Collection to a Transaction Collection: Start a new collection with the transactions recorded for each product in a lot collection.
● To start a new collection with selected chemicals (requires the Chemical Inventory module):
● Adding a Chemical to a Collection: Start a new chemical collection with a single chemical.
● Adding Chemical Search Results to a Collection: Start a new collection with one or more chemicals in search results from the Chemical Search Center.
To create an empty collection:
Starting at the Collections page (How do I get there?), do the following:
1. Click the tab of the type of collection you wish to create: SDS, Part, Lot, Transaction, or Chemical. You will see a list of all collections of the chosen type (that you have permission to view).
2. Click the Create a new Collection link.
3. Enter a name and select an Access Level for your new collection. A Private collection will be visible only to you; a Site collection will be visible to all users at your site; a Global collection will be visible to all users in the corporation. (Note: The access level is for viewing and data operation access only. No matter its access level, a collection may be edited or deleted by its creator only. The Global access level is unavailable for lot and transaction collections.)
4. Click the OK button.
